What does your loft need?
Every loft job we do, grouped by what it is for. Each one has a guide price and a page explaining how we do it.
Insulate the loft

Loft insulation
Mineral wool laid between and across the joists to 270 to 300 mm.

Loft insulation top-up
An extra layer over older, thinner insulation to reach 270 to 300 mm.

Blown loft insulation
Loose-fill mineral wool blown through a hose into lofts that are hard to roll out.

Sheep's wool and natural loft insulation
Sheep's wool or wood fibre, for breathable older homes or people who prefer natural materials.

Rafter insulation (warm loft)
Rigid boards between the rafters so the loft itself stays warm, for lofts you use.

Room-in-roof insulation
Sloping ceilings, dwarf walls and flat sections of an existing attic room insulated properly.
Boarding, hatches and ladders

Raised loft boarding
Storage boards on loft legs above full-depth insulation, so nothing gets squashed.

Insulated loft hatch
A draught-sealed, insulated hatch to replace a thin board that leaks warm air.

Loft ladder fitting
A folding or sliding ladder fitted to the hatch, often with a new insulated hatch.

Ventilation and frost protection

How we insulate a loft properly
Most insulation problems come from the details. These are the ones we never skip.
Measured before we quote
We check the depth in several places, the joists, the wiring and the tank, so the price fits your loft.
Eaves kept open
Insulation stops short of the eaves and trays hold it back, so the loft can still breathe and stay dry.
Storage without squashing
Boards go on loft legs above the insulation, never straight onto it.
Straight answers on grants
If you could get funded insulation, we tell you before we quote you for it.

Common questions
How much does loft insulation cost?
From bare joists, our guide prices start at about £495 for a terraced house. The Energy Saving Trust puts the typical professionally installed cost at about £750, and about £600 for a top-up. See the prices page for every home type.
How long does loft insulation take?
Most lofts are done in a day. Large lofts, boarding, clearing and removal of old insulation can take longer.
Is the survey free?
Yes, the survey and written quote are free for installation work. Standalone surveys, condensation investigations and thermal imaging are priced on their pages.
How deep should loft insulation be?
At least 270 mm of mineral wool, as recommended by the Energy Saving Trust.
Can I still store things in my loft?
Yes, on raised boarding that sits above the insulation. Boards laid straight on the joists squash it.
Do you offer grants or free insulation?
We quote for privately paid work. If you might qualify for a funded scheme, we tell you first and point you to the official route.
Is there VAT on loft insulation?
Installing insulation in a home is zero-rated until 31 March 2027, then 5%. Boarding, ladders and vents are standard-rated if VAT applies.
Will my loft get damp after insulation?
Not if the eaves stay clear and warm, moist air from the house is kept out. We fit eaves trays and look for air leaks as part of the job.
